I've been a little off the game of late, hope you haven't noticed, but you probably have with my lack of sewing and lack of posting of new arrivals in the shop. I have been living with a little dark cloud hanging over me.
Over the summer months I noticed a small mole growing on the back of my arm. I couldn't see it unless I looked in the mirror, but I could feel it as it would sometimes get itchy. I kept my eye on it. It wasn't growing, it hadn't changed colour, it was just there. I was sure it was nothing to worry about.
In early July, I was seeking some medical treatment, and just as a side line conversation my mole was mention. A few quick questions and the confirmation that I had some family history of melanoma, and the decision was made it would be best to remove the mole just as a precaution.
The mole was remove, and the pathology results showed my little innocuous mole was quite a nasty malignant melanoma, and it had grown rather deeply into the skin. After some quick phone calls and an appointment with a specialist surgeon, I was booked in for further surgery to remove more skin tissue and lymph glands from my arm pit.
The second surgery was performed the week following the Friendship Frolic, and yesterday I received the great news that no further cancer cells were detected and the lymph gland that was removed showed no sign of any metastasis. It was great news and I feel so darn lucky it was picked up, almost by accident. A few more months and the story would have been much different. Please if you have anything similar, do get it checked out and removed.
On the sewing front, I really have just been faffing about, I've fallen into a non productive rut which I a trying to crawl out of. I hope I am not alone, will blame Covid for it. I've drafted a new design which I am starting to fall back in love with, here is a little teaser
and I am playing with some half inch hexagons, something I never thought I could do.
Wanting to get back sewing, but not having the clarity of mind to work through the designing part, I have been looking through some of the Di Ford Hall projects I have started. I am trying to squash an ardent desire to pick one up again.
This is the Phebe Quilt, 4 sheep legs but no body. I still have the starter packs I purchased from Threadbear.
The Antique Wedding Sampler quilt
And then there is my nemesis, the Morrell Quilt.
(I can hear my appliqué ladies giggling at the mention of this quilt)
I will try and resist this urge, and work on rekindling my love for one of my new projects. AQC will happen again one day, and I could definitely do without the stress of a last minute rush.
I hope you are following along with my Instagram and Facebook pages. Remember you don't have to be a member, you can click on the icon up there, on the top left of the page to see what I have posted. I announced today that I am closing the shop once again and reverting to on-line orders only. It is just for a few weeks while we are back in Stage 3 restrictions. Covid19 is active here in Victoria, and I believe if we don't do our bit to limit our movements, the virus will keep living and keep spreading.
Happy Stitching!
Oh god Lenora. Thank god you are ok. I miSo much catching up with you. love love your little teaser”.

Oh Lenora what a relief! So fortunate that you mentioned it to your GP and that it was followed up quickly. Have you thought about combining your Di Ford blocks, possibly around that Phoebe centre...just a thought. Look forward to seeing your new design. Take care!
