After many months of anticipation, last Friday saw the arrival of our weekend event with Di Ford Hall. The weekend kicked off with a trunk show on Friday night. One by one, each of Di's amazing quilts were revealed and as my husband and son held the quilts up, Di gave an enlightening talk about her inspiration behind making the quilt, and the techniques use.
After the quilts were all shown, Di answered questions about topics such as storing fabric, buying fabric, and the machine quilting on her quilts.
A lovely supper was served,
books were signed and goodies purchased from the pop-up shop.
Saturday and Sunday were teaching days. Saturday's class was devoted to techniques, with Di giving lots of instruction on fabric selection and fussy cutting. Needleturn applique was demonstrated along with Broderie Perse. There was also the chance to view Di's extensive quilts up close, with Di generously allowing people take photographs of all her quilts.
Di's quilts really are a work of art and it is only upon close inspection that you can truly appreciate the hours that have gone into their creation.
The Sunday class was a new pattern Di has created, called Jane's Garden. During class the ladies mostly worked on their centre applique blocks, with Di once again giving some finer points on applique.
Here is some of the ladies work.
It truly was an amazing weekend. I believe every now and then people enter your life who change the way you see things. Spending just a few hours with Di makes you see fabric in a whole new light, she really is a special person and I feel so lucky to have had her company last weekend. I am also delighted that Di has agreed to come back.
