Last time I dropped in I shared some photographs I took at the Southern Right Quilt Show. One of the photographs was of Fiona Schiffl's magnificent pictorial quilt called 'Dawn in Venice'. Fiona has forwarded me some better photographs, showing the detail of her work. Let me share them with you.
Her work is absolutely stunning, and really has to be seen up close and in person to be totally appreciated. Fiona does display her work in the annual Victorian Quilters Showcase, and she is working on some major projects which will mean you will be able to see more of her. I can't wait till July, she has a masterpiece in the making.
I hope you are enjoying your Australia Day weekend.
Today I visited the Southern Right Quilt Show in Warrnambool. Here is a small taste of the beautiful quilts which are on display.
And to finish off, this spectacular pictorial quilt made by Fiona Schiffl.
If you live anywhere near Warrnambool, make sure you take a look this weekend. It is on from 10am - 4pm at the Emmanuel College hall, and all proceeds raised go towards Peter's Project, a local fundraiser raising money to establish a cancer care centre for South West Victoria. You will also find lovely stalls set up by local and interstate quilt shops.
I love this time of year. The lull after Christmas, then the excitement of hanging a new calender and starting the new year.
I made the most of the post Christmas and new year sales, stocking up on items that I can use to display my patterns and retail goodies.
Bowls, boxes, and baskets have been the main items.
I have also been scouring ebay, looking for quirky bits and pieces. While I have been unsuccessful with most items, my luck did change, and I have became the owner of this beautiful counter.
(Please excuse the lovely dusting cloth that I never even noticed was sitting there...yes it is true love!)
It used to live in a bakery shop somewhere near Baachus Marsh. It was sold to a family who planned to use it as a kitchen counter, but luckily for me their plans changed, and the counter was offered again for sale. It was an early rise, a quick milking and a long drive towing our stock trailer. Then a slow drive and a long milking, but we got it home with no damage, and met a lovely family in the process.
I am working working on a magazine project with a fast approaching deadline, so I had better hop to it. I'll see you sooner next time.
